Privacy Policy

Timexora ("we", "us") lets anyone create a countdown timer without an account. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and how you can ask us to remove it. We've tried to write it in plain language instead of dense legal boilerplate.

What we store when you create a countdown

  • Event details you enter — title, date/time, timezone, theme, celebration sound choice, and any optional message.
  • An edit token — a random secret string that acts as your private key to edit or delete the countdown later. We have no accounts, so this token is the only way to prove it's yours. If you lose it, we cannot recover it for you.
  • A password, if you set one — stored as a one-way bcrypt hash. We cannot see or recover the original password, and neither can anyone who gains access to our database.
  • A reminder email, if you provide one — used only to send the 7-day and 1-day reminder emails you asked for. It's never sold, shared, or used for marketing.
  • A background image, if you upload one — stored on our server and publicly viewable at your countdown's URL, the same as the rest of the page.
  • A hashed IP address — your IP is run through a one-way hash before storage; we never keep the raw address. This exists purely for basic abuse detection (e.g. spotting spam), not tracking.

Live viewer count ("N people viewing this right now")

While you have a countdown page open, your browser sends a short, random, temporary id — generated fresh in your browser, not tied to your identity, account, or IP — every 20 seconds so the page can show how many people are viewing it live. This signal is automatically deleted a few minutes after you close the page or stop viewing it; we don't keep a history of who viewed what or when.

Guestbook messages ("Wishes")

Anyone can leave a name and a short message on a public countdown page's guestbook. We store the name and message you type, plus a hashed IP address for spam prevention — the same one-way hash described above, never the raw address. The countdown's creator can remove any message from their edit page at any time; we don't otherwise moderate or review messages before they're posted.

Local storage ("My Countdowns")

To help you find countdowns you've created without needing an account, we save a short list (title, links, and target date) to your browser's local storage — a feature built into every browser, similar to a cookie but never sent to our servers. It stays entirely on your device, only powers the My Countdowns board (including its live ticking countdown for each entry, computed entirely in your browser), and disappears if you clear your browser's site data.

What we don't do

  • We don't require an account, email, or personal information to create a public countdown.
  • We don't sell or share your data with third parties for marketing.
  • We don't track you across other websites.

Cookies

We set one functional cookie (a PHP session) only when you unlock a password-protected countdown, so you aren't asked again on every visit. It carries no personal data and expires when you close your browser.

If we enable Google AdSense in the future, Google and its partners may set their own advertising cookies on pages that show ads. Those cookies are never active on the countdown pages themselves or the embed widget — only on general browsing pages like the homepage and Explore.

Public countdowns

If you check "List this countdown on the public Explore gallery," its title, date, and theme become visible to anyone browsing /explore. Password-protected countdowns are never listed, even if this box is checked. Countdowns are private by default and are only reachable by people who have the link.

Deleting your data

Use your edit link's "Delete This Countdown" button to remove a countdown at any time — this takes it out of public view immediately. If you'd like your uploaded background image or reminder email removed from our backups as well, contact us using the details below.

Third-party services

We may use Google AdSense to show ads on non-countdown pages once the site has traffic; until then, no ad network is active. We use no other analytics or advertising services at this time.

Children's privacy

Timexora isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
